Assignment:

1. Hobbit Intro

//The Hobbit// 1st movie trailer

//The Hobbit// 2nd movie trailer

//The Hobbit// 3rd movie trailer

Disclaimer: The book and the movie are completely different. If you watch the first two movies before the BIG Hobbit Test, it could skew the reality of the book by a great deal, thus leading you to fail just about everything. However, seeing trailers to get a picture of what characters and settings may look like, could be a good idea.

2. Grading throughout The Hobbit

The Hobbit Reading Journal (Every 2 chapters is a separate daily grade)

The Hobbit Quizzes (approximately every 2 chapters- daily grades)

After Chapter 5 you will write a character analysis of Gollem (Major Grade)

After Chapter 12, you will write a descriptive paragraph that will go through the writing process about a ferocious dragon (Major Grade)

The BIG Hobbit Test (Major Grade- must be passed to be able to go on The Hobbit field trip; Another assignment will be left on the day of the field trip. This assignment will be a ZERO if school is not attended.)

3. The Hobbit Reading Journal

[Not Posted Yet]

4. The Hobbit books are issued (This is the only version that matches the page numbers in The Hobbit Reading Journal).

5. Upload the following document to iBooks:

(This version of the book DOES NOT match the page numbers in The Hobbit Reading Journal, but if you are desperate, meaning you don't have your book and if you don't read, you will be behind, never to catch up-- use it.)

6. Reminder: On Monday, you will be selecting your teams for the entire 9 weeks again. Choose wisely! First come, first served.

Announcements for the 1st 9 Weeks(Scroll Down to View Day-to-Day Assignments)

Are you going to be ABSENT and without Internet?
  • Be sure to read through assignments ahead of time or immediately upon returning to campus and open documents in neu.annotate (app) so that you may work on them without Internet. If you want a paper copy of something, please feel free to check the "Extra Copies of Stuff" drawer that is located in the classroom.
Will we be watching a video link while you are out?
  • Download the video from my iTunes U to view without Internet.
*NEVER assume that you are excused from assignments just because you are absent. YOU, the student, are the one who is responsible for collecting and completing your missed work in a responsible and timely manner. Late policy (see syllabus) countdown begins upon your return to campus.

Going to ZAP?
Students are responsible for printing/obtaining their own work for ZAP.
Every Tuesday or Wednesday before a ZAP Saturday I give students a detailed PROGRESS REPORT that lists any and all zeros that he or she may have at that time. When going to ZAP, all the student needs to bring is this PROGRESS REPORT and their iPad for my class. Students may open all assignments in neu.annotate, complete the assignments, and email them to me while they are sitting in ZAP. Students do not need to print work. Essays may be written on notebook paper, which the ZAP teacher will have. Detailed ZAP instructions are printed on the back of every detailed progress report and are on the ZAP Page on this website. If a student goes to ZAP without their Progress Report and iPad, they will be sent home. There are computers available in ZAP to students who have lost iPad privileges.

Outside Reading Assignments are due on 10/16 at exactly 3:15. At 3:16 it is a permanent ZERO. Students need to use their time wisely for reading and doing projects. Do not expect to be allowed to use class time to create projects. Plan ahead! Happy reading!

9. When you have completed assembling your ELAR Binder, show me. This is a grade (your 1st grade)!
ELAR Binder Rules:
  • 1. The ELAR Binder NEVER leaves the classroom. It has an assigned shelf. Just as a warning- I am absolutely CRAZY about this! You will be allowed to take your ELAR Binders home to mom and dad after STAAR results are in at the end of the year. If you, mom, or dad would like to see a copy of an essay or something you have been working on, you may take a picture of it with your iPad, or Mom or Dad can email me and I will gladly email them a nice scanned-in copy. The only other times your binder may leave the room is for the following: 1. You are taking it to dyslexic intervention with Mrs. Horn, which you will leave with her and she will return. 2. You are taking it to ESL intervention with Mrs. Godinez, which you will leave with her and she will return. 3. You are taking it to Mr. Simmons' room next door for tutorials (Your binder may NOT go to the auditorium with you when Mr. Simmons is doing tutorials in there). 4. Your binder is in your cubby in AEP as you are in AEP, and Mrs. Jones will return it to my box at the end of your stay. 5. You may also see your binder with myself in a parent/teacher conference. Otherwise, your Binder NEVER leaves the classroom!
  • 2. Your binder is to stay organized. You are responsible for keeping it organized on a daily basis. I do random binder checks for a grade pretty often. Having loose papers, papers out of place, or missing papers will cost you. You are welcome to come in during tutorials to work in your binder any day of the week.

9. Practice getting and putting away supplies. You will put your ELAR Binder on the shelf that has your team name on it. If you move teams, so does your binder.
